Graeme Abbott and Alex Eames (both practising teachers) published a 7th Form chemistry revision book under the name of ABA Books Ltd. This first book (‘Seventh Form Chemistry: Problems, Answers and Notes’) became a market leader of its type and was regularly updated until 1996.

Graeme developed practical workbooks for 6th and 7th Form Chemistry and 5th Form Science which met the requirements of the curriculum in a more interactive way and suited his teaching style.

NCEA was introduced at Level 1 and over the next few years, Levels 2 and 3 were rolled out

Big changes to NCEA for Level 1 Science were introduced and ABA lead the way again with the introduction of the mini workbooks – separate workbooks for each achievement standard. These mini workbooks were very successful with teachers and students. In fact, so successful that this format has been used as a template by other NZ publishers.

Investigations into eLearning over the last few years has finally come to fruition with the trial of our Science 1.1, 1.5 and 1.9 eLearning in two New Zealand high schools.  All three courses will be available to all New Zealand high schools in 2016.

NCEA exams are heading online, so it is very timely for ABA to offer, from the 1st October, our first ever online revision for the three science external achievement standards.  Students get instant feedback on whether they have answered a question correctly (or provided with a model answer).

ABA are thrilled to release 16 full-colour Junior Science mini-workbooks to cover Science Level 3, 4 and 5 over Years 9 and 10.  They are different to anything on the market with a huge emphasis on the current NZ curriculum, encompassing the Nature of Science strands.
